Tornado and a jumpscare

 Jan 15

This week was a really fun week.  There was a tornado that touched down near us so Tuesday was mostly spent inside because there was too much rain.  The weird thing is whenever it rains down here the whole south shuts down.  No one will talk to you or answer their doors because it is raining.  People don't even really leave their homes.

Later in the week,  we had exchanges with the zone leaders so I got to go down to Savannah and party it up down there for the day.  Savannah was really cool.  There was Spanish moss all over the place and it was right by the ocean.  I was companions with an Elder from the Marshall Islands which was really cool.  He has just started learning English but he has so much faith - it is awesome.  I guess the NBA is really big over there and his favorite player was James Harden which I didn't expect.  It was really fun and cool to see a different area.

This week we did have a little jumpscare.  We went to visit an inactive couple.  As we were getting out of the car,  a guy in a golf cart and another guy smoking a cigarette started walking over to us.   We were a little cautious because the guy in the golf cart had a gold shotgun and was drinking a Coors Light.  One of them asked us what we were so scared of.  We lied and said we weren't scared but were there to visit someone.  They told us that no one was home but their parents lived there.  Turns out that they were inactive members and just messing with us.  They ended up being really nice.  One of them said he would like a Priesthood blessing sometime.  Our ward is made up of basically three large families and then some people who moved into the ward.  But more than half of the ward has one of three last names.  We've learned that there are also two historic families that left the church so there are like 40 inactive people from just their parents deciding not to go to church anymore. It is interesting to see how our decisions affect our posterity.   One family that stayed strong in the church and they all have great homes and great families and then there is the family who left the church and so many of their kids seem to struggle.  I know it isn't always this way but I am grateful to have such great ancestors and family that have stayed in the church and blessed my life so much.
