Hi Everyone,
This week was pretty great. We met the nicest family. They are an older couple and live about 30 min from Statesboro. The husband is sick and is on an oxygen tank. They needed help moving a cabinet. They called us up and we went over to help them. Afterwards, they gave us lunch, 2 beanies, a new water bottle, and a straw cleaner. They kept giving us stuff and wouldn't take no for an answer. They were so wholesome. They were so thoughtful and had a real sense of southern hospitality. They have met with missionaries on and off for years. They are just so good .. I know one day they will accept the gospel. They said we could go fishing in their pond sometime and we'll definitely take them up on that one pday. On the other side of the spectrum, we went to a house that didn't answer their door and instead let their dog out and it almost bit Elder Richardson. But he was fine.
We had Elder Renlund come and it was really cool. He shook everyone's hand and then gave some great thoughts. He talked at the beginning that when he was first set apart as an Apostle he felt worried to assign missionaries and was daunted by the task. It was really cool hearing an Apostle of the Lord say that he was nervous for a task. It showed that they are all human and it made a man that has always seemed kinda rigid more human. He said he asked other apostles for advice and none of it helped lol.
We also had a special needs young man who always wanted to be a missionary get set apart as a service missionary so we were able to take him out for a little bit. It was fun. I put on fake glasses and then he wouldn't let me take them off because he liked them on me. So for a day I walked around with fake glasses. Elder Buckhoff is the best. He said that he needed to ride shotgun because he is a big guy so I gave him shotgun and sat in the back.
But it was a very fun week and I am looking forward to this week.
Love, Elder Gurney
