Hi Everyone,

This was a pretty fun week! It started out with us going to Columbia to help out at a Salvation Army location right in front of USC's stadium.   It was nice helping out and it was a multi zone event. It was great! I then went on exchanges with Elder Gregory and Elder Forese. It was a blast working with them.   After exchanges,we drove up to my old area for a multi zone christmas conference. It was great there too. We had some competition to see who could stick the most red cotton balls to there nose and other fun games like that.

Since I was in my old area of Simpsonville, we stopped by a family that I taught.  Idk if anyone remembers Cierra and her two kids but I stopped by and saw them. They are on date to be baptized Feb 1st and were super happy to see me.  I played some football with the kids Zion and Korbyn and then left.

For Pday today,  we checked out SC State. It's the college here in Orangeburg. They won the HBCU national championship in 2021 and it was fun walking around campus. Since it is a HBCU 80% of the students are Black.  It was cool to see all the posters and ads.  It was winter break so noone was there so we just walked around.

There was a spot in the middle of the college where black students were shot at because they were protesting the bowling alleys being white only.   Three people were killed and 27 injured and there was a memorial for them.  Sometimes I forget I am in the south but things like that remind me.  Also the confederate flag right by our apartment lol.   Racism is hard to understand and even more hard to know that it still exists.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas!

Elder Gurney
